This month, we caught up with Mica Johnson, Senior Business Intelligence and Library Manager at?Holland & Knight LLP, to find out what’s going on in the legal world.
IBISWorld:?What challenge(s) do you and your company or department face right now?
Mica Johnson: The major challenge that our lawyers face right now is understanding our clients’ and our prospective clients’ businesses as well as they do.? Our firm is uniquely positioned to provide full spectrum client-centric services to clients, rather than just help a client with one particular matter.? To gain that additional business from our clients, we have to show that we understand their industry and their business as well, or better than they do.
IW:?How does/might IBISWorld help you overcome this challenge?
MJ: IBISWorld provides me with unique insight that helps me, my team of analysts and our firm’s lawyers gain an in depth knowledge of key industries and businesses that can show our clients and potential clients that we understand their business, their competitors and the industry, and can provide professional legal services to meet all of their needs.
IW:?What do you foresee happening in your industry within the next year?
MJ: I believe that more law firms will laterally acquire smaller, more specialized boutique firms to allow for continued growth, provide clients with new capabilities and expand firm reach to new geographic locations.? Growing law firms will have to reinvest in themselves smartly and strategically to minimize risk and maximize growth opportunity.
IW:?Tell us something interesting about yourself (hobbies, experiences, travel, etc.)
MJ: I love spending time with my husband and two Labs, Toby and Niki, and watching my alma mater, University of Michigan, compete in college athletics.
